Rapist, Deported Drug Trafficker Among Nearly 200 Arrested In Immigration Crackdown

Rapist, Deported Drug Trafficker Among Nearly 200 Arrested In Immigration Crackdown

United States federal immigration agents have arrested almost 200 people suspected of being in the country illegally during a five-day raid in the Los Angeles area in southern California.

During the five-day "expanded enforcement operation" that concluded on Wednesday, ICE agents arrested 188 individuals in Southern California.

In addition to the two in Glendale, others arrested included a 29-year-old Salvadoran national who was previously deported in 2014 after serving a nine-year prison sentence for rape.

Among those who had previous criminal convictions, 43 were for drug offenses, 27 for domestic violence and 30 for driving under the influence.

"Some of these unsafe individuals had been released to the streets instead of being turned over to ICE or our detainers, which compromises the safety of the homeland that ICE officers strive to protect every day", ERO Philadelphia Acting Field Office Director Jennifer Ritchey said in the release.

News of ICE's operation came after the agency recently reported it stepped up its immigration enforcement as a result of President Donald Trump's immigration-related executive orders.

The immigration agency said 146 of those arrested were Mexican nationals, while the rest hailed from El Salvador, Guatemala, Armenia, Honduras, Russia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Yugoslavia and Cambodia.

More than 25000 Graco car seats recalled
The company will notify product owners that their child seats are being recalled and will provide a new harness, free of charge. Models of the My Ride 65 that are included in the Graco auto seat recall were made from May 20, 2014 through August 1, 2014.

Of the recent Southern California arrests, eight people face federal prosecution for returning to the USA illegally after being deported.

"With the new administration, anybody that's in violation of the immigration laws. are subject to arrest". Arrests were also made in San Bernardino, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

US immigration authorities made more than 41,000 arrests during President Trump's first 100 days in office, a 34.5 percent increase over the same period in 2016. The administration said in March ICE would continue making arrests at California courthouses over the objections of the state's chief justice.

"His daughter is active-duty military, his son-in-law is active duty military", said Jennie Pasquarella, a director of immigrants' rights at the ACLU.

"The same data shows that numerous non-sanctuary jurisdictions saw a higher increase in ICE arrests under Trump policies than did areas with major sanctuaries".

"This is part of their, I think, public relations strategy to say they're going after people with certain convictions, but of course it doesn't tell the whole story of who these people are and the harm that is brought by targeting them and whether it's really a sound choice", said Pasquarella.

Detained immigrants who do not face criminal charges will be slated for deportation.
