7 shot during San Diego pool party; suspect dead

A gunman was shot dead by police after opening fire and injuring eight people at a swimming pool of a luxury San Diego apartment complex on Sunday night.

San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman held multiple press conferences with known details on the mass shooting and said the department will provide another update on Monday. The witness said the gunman initially shot back at the officers, and three officers shot him to bring him down.

One of the women died at the hospital.

One man was taken to the hospital after he broke his arm while fleeing.

Police identified the suspect as 49-year-old Peter Selis.

Meanwhile, Zimmerman reported that eight people were injured in the shooting.

Somehow, they had gone from being 8 games back when we left to being "only" 4 games out of first place when we returned. And don't forget that the Jays were 0-3 in extra inning games prior to this one and had only won three times in total.

Arriving officers located the suspect in the pool area. Several of the victims are in a critical condition.

Five victims were taken by San Diego Fire-Rescue paramedics to Scripps La Jolla.

Police said the suspect had been shot and there was no further threat, although they are requesting that people shelter in place to allow them to investigate.

Rikky Galiendes, 27, heard gunshots around 6 p.m.and went to look outside his sixth-story apartment when he spotted a man bleeding and running near the pool below.

Police said they do not have any information on the shooter and his motive at this stage.

A second witness, who was at the pool, told NBC 7 the suspect walked into the pool area where friends were celebrating one of the tenants' 50th birthday party. He said he immediately got on the ground.
