Myanmar not trying to hide anything in Rakhine, investigating - Suu Kyi

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held talks with Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Wednesday and pledged 40 billion yen ($390 million) in aid to back her government's peace process with ethnic minorities, amid growing worldwide concern about reported army attacks on a Muslim group.

The military has flooded the northern part of the state near the border with Bangladesh since October 9, when militants believed to be Rohingya Muslims attacked police border posts, killing nine officers. The government has long made access to the region a challenge, generally banning foreign aid workers and journalists.

The state is home to around 1.2 million Rohingya, who have always been officially labeled as "Bengali" - a term suggesting they are illegal immigrants from neighboring Bangladesh - and denied citizenship. Some 125,000 remain displaced and face severe travel restrictions in squalid camps since fighting erupted in Rakhine between Buddhists and Muslims in 2012.

The United Nations has reported that Rohingya Muslims are one of the most persecuted minorities in the world.

Her comment Friday comes amid growing worldwide concern over the surge in violence by security forces in Rakhine.

The area in northwestern Rakhine depends largely on humanitarian aid for food and health care, but it has been cut off for weeks since the October violence broke out.

Who did John Kasich vote for? Not Trump
You signed a pledge saying that you would support the Republican nominee for president", former Sen. John Kasich vowed he would never vote for the current Republican presidential nominee.

"We've seen over the last four or five years that the Rohingya Muslims are being slowly cleansed from society", he told Press TV.

The English-language newspaper sacked reporter Fiona MacGregor because the "rape allegations story and "several" other unidentified articles" she had written "breached company policy by damaging national reconciliation and the paper's reputation", MacGregor wrote in a Facebook post.

She said the Rakhine situation is delicate and that Myanmar's government has been "very careful not to blame anybody in particular unless we have complete evidence as to who has been responsible for what".

The latest attack came late on Thursday (Nov 3), the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar said, shortly after foreign diplomats visited villages in the region and called for an investigation into the October attacks and the subsequent army sweep. Suu Kyi also said that there have been Muslims killed, but gave no details.

Suu Kyi said in the press conference that her government will not blame anyone in recent violence in the Rakhine state until the authorities have all the evidence.

In Japan on a five-day visit that included a meeting with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Suu Kyi met Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, who said violence could not be permitted in dealing with the crisis, a Foreign Ministry statement said.
