White House denounces Senate failure to act on gun measures

White House denounces Senate failure to act on gun measures

Since January 1, there have been 145 mass shootings in the US, but Murphy admitted getting anything approved by Republicans was a long shot.

Ernst and Sen. Chuck Grassley, also a Republican, voted for an amendment that would give the Federal Bureau of Investigation three days to investigate an individual to confirm or rule out links to terrorism.

Republican Senator Susan Collins of ME was trying to keep gun control attempts alive.

Media report from Washington says that the U.S. Senate has failed to pass any changes to laws regulating gun sales, in spite of calls for immediate action following the worst mass shooting in Orlando.

"We can't say for sure if anything in our laws would have stopped this maniac from carrying out some form of attack, but I know that the proposals I supported today would specifically fill gaps that are evident after this attack and protect people who may one day find themselves needing firearms to protect themselves", Rubio said. In order for the measures to pass, a 60-vote threshold was required. John Cornyn, R-Texas, attributed failure of the discussions to what he characterized as Feinstein's lack of respect for Constitutional gun rights.

"So look, no one wants terrorists to be able to buy guns or explosives".

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he was withholding judgment until the bill was actually released. "Instead of using this as an opportunity to push a partisan agenda or craft the next 30-second campaign ad, colleagues like Sen".

Cornyn and U.S. Sen.

"Once the gun is bought, you don't fix that", he said.

"These are amendments to divert attention from real legislation", Reid said.

Demi Lovato Quits Twitter and Instagram
With her strong presence on both platforms, it would be surprising if Lovato didn't return soon. Lovato countered with a "You got it the wrong way around honey" and all hell broke loose.

So far, however, the Republican-led USA legislature has failed to pass any new gun control laws, with opponents saying that to do so would infringe on the constitutional rights of gun owners. It would've made checks necessary for gun show and online sales. Collins' proposal has yet to win over more support from the Democratic side, however. A lone gunman, Omar Mateen, killed 49 people and injured 53 at a nightclub in Orlando, Florida, prompting fresh calls for tighter restrictions on weapons.

The Senate has now voted down background check legislation twice under the Obama administration: The first time following the 2012 Sandy Hook elementary school shooting, and now just a week after the Orlando nightclub shooting. The 49 victims who died made it the largest mass shooting in recent US history, topping a string of such incidents that have punctuated recent years. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., which would have expanded background check requirements to include private sales and sales over the Internet.

The Senate is voting Monday on an amendment from Cornyn to allow the government to delay a gun sale to a suspected terrorist for 72 hours, but require court action to block the sale permanently.

The final vote scheduled was on an amendment sponsored by Sen.

It also failed, by a measure of 47 to 53.

"Seems to me, it's common sense", he said. A divided Senate blocked rival election-year plans to curb guns on Monday, eight days after the horror of Orlando's mass shooting intensified pressure on lawmakers to act but knotted them in gridlock anyway - even over restricting firearms for terrorists.

"Her alternative is not enough to close the loophole that creates this terror gap", said Sen.

Another embattled Republican, Sen.

The results did not come as a surprise to most.
